Biolab Home Page

Biolab is an unmoderated e-mail list for discussion of issues and information related to college biology teaching. It has been in existence since April, 1994 and currently more than 600 subscribers. Topics range over a wide variety of subjects that are of interest to the group. The list of archive categories below provides an idea of the group's interests.

To subscribe to the list, send a message to listproc@hubcap.clemson.edu with "subscribe biolab <your name>" as the body of the message.

When your subscription is entered, you will receive an acknowledgement from the listprocessor software. Please contact the list coordinator, Jean Dickey (dickeyj@clemson.edu), if you have any problems.

Messages posted to Biolab are the intellectual property of their authors. Please respect the rights of Biolab contributors: do not reprint or re-post messages without the author's permission.

Many threads have been collected in a searchable database. Here is a description of the fields that you may search.

Administration -- grading, TA supervision, credit, enrollments, assessment...
Books -- textbook recommendations; reading lists
Curriculum -- requirements and course sequences.
Lab preparation -- Sources of materials (including equipment), recipes
Lab procedures -- How-to for lab techniques and experiments; ideas for labs
Miscellaneous -- despite the number and variety of categories, could not fit these threads anywhere else : )
Movies/videos -- both educational and popular films and videos on biology-related topics
Pedagogy -- course design and content; used as a catch-all category
Philosophy -- ethics of dissection, gender-based courses
Safety -- safety issues in labs
Software
Subject areas -- used for threads pertaining to content questions posed by Biolabbers. Includes a wide variety of subjects, grouped into subcategories. Type in the content area you wish to search, for example, "bacteria."
Teaching techniques -- lecture demonstrations, analogies, dealing with special groups of students...
